QFISH Programme

Introduction

The QFISH programme is a rebranding of the LKIM People’s Fish Programme that was introduced in 2013. This branding started in May 2016 and was launched on 6 December 2016 by the Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism, Datuk Henry Sum Agong in conjunction with the launch of the Malaysia Seafood Exposition (MySE).

QFISH is fresh fish frozen using Individual Quick Freezing (IQF) technology. A total of 8 species of local favorite fish were selected, namely Kembung (Indian Mackerel), Selar (Yellowtail Scad), Pelaling (Indian Mackerel), Selayang (Roundscad), Cencaru (Torpedo Scad), Tilapia, Keli (Catfish) and Aya/Tongkol (Skipjack Tuna). The maximum selling price is RM10.00 per kilogram to help the B40 low-income group.

This programme aims to:

  • Help stabilize the supply and price of fish in reducing the impact of the increase in the cost of living for the people.
  • Reduce the burden of the consumer’s daily expenses by offering the people’s choice of fish at a reasonable price.
  • Create business opportunities for new entrepreneurs to venture into the fishing industry and increase income based on high sales volume.
  • Support the fish marketing business as the economic core of the Fishermen’s Association which furthermore increases the socio-economic level of the fishing community.
