Director General of the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia
Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuh
First of all I would like to say thank you for visiting the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) website.
The LKIM official website is an important medium of communication for the organization to disseminate any news and information accurately and quickly to the general public.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate YB Dato’ Haji Salahudin Bin Ayub on his appointment as Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry effective 18 May 2018. My congratulation also goes out to YB Sim Tze Tzin on his appointment as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry.
I would also like to express my gratitude to Allah s.w.t. as it is by His grace that I am given the opportunity to initiate this preamble since being appointed as the new Director General of LKIM effective as of 24 July 2018. Thank you to all those who placed their trust in me to spearhead the leadership of LKIM.
As the general knows, the role of LKIM is crucial in encouraging and promoting efficient and effective management of enterprises in the marketing of fish. Therefore, LKIM functions in increasing demand in the marketing of the country’s fish. LKIM is also responsible for strengthening the role of the Fishermen’s Association (PN) including the National Fishermen’s Association (PNK) and State Fishermen’s Association (PNN). Until now, there are 13 PNNs and 89 PNKs available throughout Malaysia which helps to encourage, stimulate, facilitate and develop economic and social progress of target groups including fishermen and fishery producers.
In addition, I intend to improve the human capital competence of all LKIM employees to ensure that LKIM’s role is always taken seriously in the development of the fisheries sector. I also welcome any initiative to implement the transformation of the fishery sector, especially involving the shift of fisherman’s mindset towards a more sustainable and continuous fisheries development. At the same time, efforts to attract more young people to venture into fisheries will be intensified.
Of the programs implemented and the number of people who have reaped its benefits, it is clear that LKIM’s priority is to help the fishermen community improve their standard of living and receive direct benefits. This is to realize the intention of the Ministry to make the fisheries sector an important contributor to the national economy. LKIM will continue to play an integrated and consistent role to mobilize various fishery activities continuously and fully utilize the facilities provided.
Before I conclude my speech, I would like to extend my gratitude to all LKIM staff for the commitment given throughout the establishment of LKIM and congratulate the fishermen community who has been involved in various programs implemented by LKIM. I hope they will continue to strive to improve productivity in the future as well as to maintain cooperation and work harder towards a better mutual prosperity.
