Management of Fishermen’s Diesel and Petrol Subsidy Scheme
This scheme was implemented in 2006 to help cover part of the cost of fishing operations borne by fishermen due to the increase in oil prices in the market. In 2021 a total of 51,926 vessel owners received diesel and petrol subsidies. The total distribution of subsidized diesel and petrol in 2021 for catchment zones A, B and C amounted to 637,843,954 liters while for catchment zone C2 the provision of subsidized diesel had been abolished.

In order to implement subsidized diesel distribution to fishermen, three (3) wholesalers have been appointed, namely the National Fishermen’s Association (NEKMAT) in the Peninsular, Ko-Nelayan in Sabah and the Sarawak State Fishermen’s Association (PENESA) in Sarawak.
